Atlantic Health System’s Morristown Medical Center was ranked the number one hospital in New Jersey by U.S. News & World Report in its 2019-2020 Best Hospital rankings.

U.S. News evaluated 98 hospitals in New Jersey with 15 meeting U.S. News standards and ranking in the state.

No. 1 Morristown Medical Center was the only hospital in New Jersey to be ranked among the best 50 hospitals in the nation for Cardiology & Heart Surgery (No. 26) and was also ranked among the best 50 hospitals in the nation for Orthopedics (No. 34).

Morristown Medical Center was also recognized in nine common adult procedures and conditions: Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair, Aortic Valve Surgery, COPD, Heart Bypass Surgery, Heart Failure, Colon Cancer Surgery, Hip Replacement, Knee Replacement and Lung Cancer Surgery.

It was also recognized as a high-performing hospital regionally in five specialties: Gastroenterology & GI Surgery, Geriatrics, Nephrology, Pulmonology, and Urology.

“This sustained recognition demonstrates the commitment from our team (medical, clinical and support teams) to build healthier communities, ensure extraordinary care is constantly delivered, focus on excellent patient outcomes and experience, seamless care coordination, and innovating to provide the best care for our patients,” said Trish O’Keefe, president, Morristown Medical Center. “As a leader, we will continue to provide high-quality care for our patients and work with our communities to ensure they have the programs and resources to keep them healthy.”

The annual Best Hospitals ranking and ratings, now in their 30th year, are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or for common elective procedures.

The U.S. News Best Hospitals methodologies in most areas of care are based largely on objective measures such as risk-adjusted survival and discharge-to-home rates, volume, and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators.

For the 2019-2020 ranking and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 25 specialties, procedures and conditions. In the 16 specialty areas, 165 hospitals were rated in at least one specialty. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized hospitals as high performing across multiple areas of care.
